The 59-year-old politician, who has served as Prime Minister since 2012, is currently in stable condition and his life is no longer in danger.

Fico has played a pivotal role in Slovakian politics since the country gained independence from Czechoslovakia in 1993. He has served as Prime Minister on three separate occasions, from 2006 to 2010, 2012 to 2018, and again since 2020.
